Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. Joshua 24:15
The Purpose of this Article
This article is for those of you who have put your faith in the Messiah for your salvation and justification, who if you are like me, are very sincere about your faith but aren’t sure how and why you believe what you believe. I have learned that even though I was very sincere, I had inherited many beliefs that are not Scriptural. These false beliefs and understandings are confusing to me and to those I’m trying to talk to about the Lord. False beliefs are also upsetting to the Father. Our current and typical way of walking out our faith has evolved far away from what Scripture will support. Our current and modern Christianity isn’t provoking many to jealousy as it should. We look just like the unsaved world. Not too salty. Not too much light. We hope people don’t bring up certain topics because we know we’ll have trouble explaining things.
My point to this article is not to make you feel condemned. I hope to make you think about why it’s important to see how the "deceiver" has drawn us away from our solid foundation and has evolved us into something that is not very threatening to him. About every end-time conversation begins with …"take heed that you are not deceived…" I’m not sure, but I think God is trying to tell us something. How do we avoid being deceived? Where are we deceived already?
The main thrust of this article is to have you re-evaluate the relevance of the Old Testament, specifically the 1st five books of Moses called Torah. Torah simply means "instruction" which sometimes is misconstrued with our current definition of the harsh word "law." A firm understanding of Torah, though, is necessary for all parts of our faith. It shows us we are a sinner, it shows us that we need a subsitutionary sacrifice, it shows us who that Lamb is. It also tells us how to live after we are saved. Paul says it better to Timothy when he tells him what he should do concerning the O.T.
2 Timothy 3:13-17 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures,(O.T.) which are able to make thee wise unto salvationthrough faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Most modern Christians believe all of the Bible but just don’t think it is all relevant for them today. Most know that we have a connection to the Jewish people and to Israel, but don’t know why. Most know that our country and faith is based on Judeo-Christianity. We have, or used to have, the 10 Commandments posted in our courthouses. We all believe we worship the God of Israel. There are some similarities between Jews and Christians. For example, we both look to Abraham as the father of the Faith. Jews point to His faithfulness to God’s commands as to why He is so great; Christians point to when time when he believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness. Even Yashua (nicknamed: Jesus) was full of faith and was obedient to God’s Torah. But if you look at how we walk out our faith now it looks like something has dramatically changed. While there are familiar similarities, the OT believer and the NT believer look more different than alike. Should this be so?
Has the Modern Gentile Christian evolved beyond that of the Believer of the O.T?
Evolutionists teach that as creatures evolve they lose unnecessary or vestigial body parts that are no longer relevant to survival. They teach the apes lost their tails when they became humans, because tails were no longer necessary. Has the modern Christian lost vestigial or unneeded appendages such as: Sabbath, The Feasts of the Lord, & dietary laws and has now evolved new and superior appendages, such as SUNday, Christmass, Easter & all is clean to eat? Have the following transitions occurred?
Sabbath has morphed in Sunday
Passover has evolved into Easter
The Feast of Tabernacles evolved into Christmass.
Purim is now St. Valentines Day
Unclean things are now clean things
As people, what was once bad for our bodies is now good for our bodies, after Acts 10.
Torah being a good thing is now Torah is a bad thing
It used to be that once your were saved you showed God you loved Him by wanting to obey Him, that has evolved into; now that I am saved I wouldn’t want to insult Him by returning to the legalism of Torah.
Some say it’s now against the law to want to keep God’s Law.
The Evolution of God’s Ways has been taught for a long time. Many of the early church fathers began these teachings, which have been accelerating downward ever since.
"If then those who have lived in antiquated practices,(Torah observant) if they came to newness of hope, no longer keeping the Sabbath, but living in accordance with the Lord’s Day, therefore having become His disciples, let learn to live in accordance to Christianity. It is utterly absurd to worship Jesus Christ and practice Judaism. Ignatias 2nd Cent A.D.
Do you currently agree with Ignatious, who is a very distinguished early church father?
As one example of evolution, it teaches that a frog eventually became a bird over time. With science we have learned that frogs and birds are different in many ways. There is no DNA code (God given information) in frogs for feathers, hollow bones, beaks, etc. Frog’s DNA has information to produce another frog. Frogs do NOT have information to produce a bird.
Let’s compare Passover to Easter. They too are different and one is written about in scripture (has God given information). The other one has no God written code. The Bible has information about how His followers keep Passover (Ex chs 12, 34, Lev 23, Numbers 9, 28, 33, Deut 16, Josh 5, 2 Kings 23, 2 Chron. 30, 35, Ezra 6, Ezek 45, Matt.26, Mark 14, Luke 2, 22, John 11,12,18,19, 1 Cor 5, Heb 11, Rev 5.) but has no information about how His followers are to keep Easter. Yet most "Bible Believers" practice the very thing that is not even in the Bible to even be believed.
The information to avoid obeying Torah is not found in Torah. So the information to rebel against Torah must come from some other source. Therefore, concerning Easter and Passover, since they arrive by different information it must be concluded that they are not related or have the same ancestors. They are different and their Source of information is different.
Mutations can produce something new. Just as with DNA, when info is lost or mutated in biology you get things like Down’s Syndrome, sickle cell anemia, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. (NOTE: To date there are no positive mutations that are known.) If Christians claim to come from the God of Israel, the only way you get Christmass, Easter, SUNday, etc. is by losing or changing the information from God’s Code (Word), thereby resulting in a downward results. Incidentally, mutations that are considered not negative such as a mule, which is a cross between a horse and a donkey, or a liger (lion & tiger), etc. are STERILE and can NOT bring forth after their kind.
The Epistle of Ignatious to the Antiaochans states:
"These things that I write unto you, the new olive tree of Christ. Beware of those dumb dogs (those who went before i.e. Jews/Israel.) Those trailing serpents, those scaly dragons, those asps, those scorpions for these are subtle wolves and apes that mimic the appearance of man.
Ignatious apparently hasn’t read Rom. 11. There isn’t a new olive tree. All Believers are all grafted into His Old one. All are grafted into the Messiah. There isn’t another Way (John 14:6) Besides, all of us who are grafted into the Messiah should have the same sap running through us. We shouldn’t look different but should bear like-kinded fruit.
Much of Modern Christianity has a macro evolutionary mindset. Micro-evolution is where you have variation within a kind, such as big dogs, little dogs, short-haired dogs, but all still dogs. This variation is observable and predictable. Macro evolution is where evolutionists teach that given enough time a dog will become a cow or a plant. This has never been observed and is not predictable. So if you have believers like Abel, Enoch, Daniel, Noah, Abraham, etc. and then all of a sudden, in Acts 2, there is a spontaneous generation of a new type of believer. This new type has cast off its old self and old appendages and looks nothing like those before Acts 2. Does this make sense?
Micro-evolution does occur. Small changes within a kind. But one kind generating a whole other kind is not reality in the plant kingdom, the animal kingdom, or the spiritual kingdom. In other words, dogs have dogs. They never have cats, birds or plants. But the dogs that are produced might look like slightly different than their parents. That is why in Colossians we are told that not to judge each other for how we might keep God’s Feast differently as long as we are all trying to find and see the Messiah as clearly as we can in these Feasts that all point to Him.
Colossians 2:16-17 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body (or substance of which) is of Christ.
With this understanding, people observe the Sabbath differently. In Israel, as Friday’s sundown approaches, it might look differently than someone keeping the Sabbath in Russia which is slightly different than how we usher in the 7th day here. SUNday is another KIND. It has no relation to Creation Rest described in Gen 2, The Feast it represents in Lev. 23, The 4th Commandment of Exodus 20 or the verses in Hebrew 4, where God tells us if there were another day of rest, He would have told us so.
Tertullian, another modern thinking church father, in his answer to the Jews says….
"It follows accordingly, that in so far as the abolition of carnal circumcision and of the old law, is demonstrated as having been consummated at a specific time, so also the observance of the Sabbath is demonstrated to have been temporary.""
Incidentally, this exact same belief of Tertullian is spoken of by many seminary trained pastors in America and is gobbled up by most of their parishioners.
Consider the following comparisons to see if you are consistent in your world-view:
Young Earth Creationists believe God created everything perfectly from the beginning. Perfect man sinned and things started going downhill.
Evolutionists believe things started simply and crudely, in a puddle somewhere, and evolved upward, getting better as time goes on.
From a political point of view: Conservatives, believe that our Constitution and Bill of Rights is our fundamental doctrine of what everything about being an American is based on and was created at a given point in time (1789) and was good for then and now to preserve our God given rights. It transcends time.
Liberals disdain our Founding Fathers and believe the Constitution is a living, breathing (evolving) document that should be changed or done away with because it inhibits our man-made rights. (i.e. Gay-Marriage, abortion, separation of church & state)
Some believers think that God’s word was perfect from the beginning (i.e. Torah). Torah is the foundational, fundamental Way that transcends time and defines what His standard is, what our unsaved condition is, Who is our substitute, and how to walk as a believer. As we obey God, like Abraham did after he was saved, (Gen 26:4-5) There is a blessing to following God’s Ways. It preserves our relationship to not go after other gods, to not murder, to remember we are created, to not commit adultery, Christ is our Passover sacrifice for rebellious sin, we will again Tabernacle with God, etc, etc ….
Modern Christianity disdains the Law. Quotes like "we are not under the Law", "Christ is the end of the Law" etc. fly off the tongue without the slightest knowledge of where the quotes are located and the context in which they are spoken. After all things have been improving over time. Modern Christianity is taught to be superior to what Noah, Abraham, Daniel, and others in the O.T. had. They believe the Law has been done away with through Christ, and a good thing too, because it limits our "freedoms" in our "just believe" faith. Never mind the divorce rate is just as high in Christian circles as the pagan world. It is practically impossible to tell the difference between a "Christian" and a non-Chistian in the workplace, etc. The evidence of destroyed lives from lack of direction doesn’t matter, the modern Gentile Christian is superior to believers like Noah, Enoch, Daniel, Elijah, John the Baptist, The Disciples, and all the believers prior to Cornelius.
If you are a Modern Gentile believer, does it bother you to have liberal, evolutionist thinking in your faith even though you don’t believe that when it comes to your science or politics? Does it bother you that the Messiah Himself said in Matt 5:17-19 that "He didn’t come to destroy the Law." The apostle Paul said he walked orderly keeping the law,(Acts21:24)
By the way Paul also said…
Romans 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Romans 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Spiritually speaking, modern Christianity typically views itself as Modern Man and Ancestral Israel as ancient apes. Sure, we site the 10 commandments, and a few favorite OT verses, but we decide which laws are good and therefore are in effect and which ones are no longer in effect. We decide which O.T. Scriptures are relevant and which ones are passe’. (Psalm 23 and 91 are good, Psalm 1 and 119 some cringe at). People quote Jer. 29:11 "I know the plans I have for you…" and Hosea 4:6 "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.." We agree we shouldn’t murder or commit adultery, we agree the God has good plans for us, etc. But Sabbath, dietary laws, Holy Days, etc. have changed over time. Things that were once unclean and not good for us, became clean after Acts 10. (Even though in Acts 10:28 the purpose of the "sheet vision" clearly states that MAN is the thing not considered unclean) Eating the bottom dwelling garbage collecting cockroaches of the sea (lobster), is now a delicacy. Eating manure eating, garbage collectors of the land (swine) is now healthy and is even considered the "other white meat" implying it is even healthier than beef. The genetic information for FOOD is not found in unclean things. According to Scripture only those listed as clean are called food. According to man, whatever we can fit in our mouth is called food. Some ask how can what you eat be such a big issue? Our flesh is always wanting to be in charge. It must be controlled. The Fall of man was over this clean vs. unclean issue, among other things. There were two trees in the Garden and told Adam one was clean and one was forbidden.
The Geologic Column:
The Geologic Column is the "Bible" of an Evolutionist. Evolution teaches that buried fossils appear in different layers and you can thereby determine the age of the fossil by what layer of rock it’s in. The Column has different "ages", from Pre-Cambrian to now. Keep in mind that full geologic column exists nowhere but in text-books, it is still taught as truth to biology and geology students from middle school through college. Circular reasoning abounds. Geologists can tell you the age of the rock by the index fossils that are found in a particular layer of rock. Biologists can tell you the age of the fossil by what layer of rock it’s found in.
The Column has series of Ages.
The Pre-Cambrian Age was before there were any life forms…The primordial soup time.
The Cambrian Age, Paleozoic age, Triassic, Jurassic, etc….
Things happen in separate chunks of time. Things are always getting better and more advanced with time. This is what students are fed, even though it has no basis is reality. In real life, the geologic column is jumbled up. Sometimes simple creatures are on the top. Sometimes they are all mixed together as if some big catastrophic event, like a world-wide flood, buried them all immediately.
Spiritually speaking we have been fed a "geologic column" called DISPENSATIONALISM. This teaches that in different epics or ages of time, God was up to different things as it pertains to how an individual is saved. When Christ came He came to do away with the Law, because now we are in the AGE of grace and the AGE of Law has been done away with. Moses and the AGE of the Law, then Christ and the Age of Grace and the Church. We keep evolving. We don’t need or want what they had back then. Those are all vestigial things that can be done away with. One covenant replaces the other, right?
One problem….just as the geologic column doesn’t exist in nature; Dispensationalism doesn’t exist in Scripture. But something that does exist in Scripture are these verses…
Malachi 3:6 For I am the Lord, I change not.
Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Incidentally, modern Christianity uses the same circular logic as the most ardent evolutionist. At the Council of Trent the Catholics changed the day of worship from Sabbath to Sunday to show they had power over Scripture. They, not the Bible, called this new SUNday worship the Lord’s Day. Modern Christians point to Rev. 1 where John was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day as a proof text that Sunday is the new Sabbath. Compare this to what Scripture says. In Philippians 2:10-11 we are told that "every knee shall bow every tongue confess, that Yashua the Messiah is LORD. " Lev. 23 shows us what are the Feasts of the LORD (Yashua) and the firstone mentioned is Sabbath.
Additionally, in Mark 2:27-28 He says
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Covenants are permanent. We count on God being able to keep His word over time. Many of us are counting on that for our salvation. We understand this. One covenant does not replace another, more is added to it and a new understanding is provided. Every one of the Heroes of Faith described in Heb. chapter 11 are from the OT and everyone is praised not for their earning salvation by Law but how it always happens…by faith. They all had corresponding acts or works of faith because they already believed by faith in something God had promised. That should be our testimony too.
The "New" in New Covenant means a new revelation of a previous understanding, not totally new as in a different teaching of a contrarian doctrine from the past. To illustrate, let’s use something from the Bible we all understand. God keeps track of months by using a NEW moon. According to those who hold the belief of "new replaces old", to be consistent, you would have to think a new moon is a new celestial body that comes into earth’s orbit at just the right time and location each month to replace the old moon that flies off into outer space somewhere. Hebrew reckoning of New means the Old moon has run its cycle and now reveals itself again.
The O.T. folks looked to Gods’ Son for their salvation. They didn’t know exactly all the details of how this Lamb of God was going to be sacrificed for their rebellious sin, but they believed God was going to do it. They believed it by faith. They looked forward to this event that would accomplish this. We in the NT look to the same event on the cross. We have it better because we have a few more of the details filled in on how the event went down, but it’s not a new and contrary covenant to the old way that saves us. It’s a new understanding and revelation of what they had been looking for.
God keeps His word. To show you that you really already understand this, let me ask you something about another one of God’s covenants….Do you expect another world-wide flood? If not, why not? Does this effect your view of one covenant superceding another covenant or does the Rainbow covenant remain in effect?
In the next two passages of Scripture you will see a covenant along with a sign or token of the promise being made as well as the time frame the covenant is good for…
Genesis 9:8 8 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, 9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; ….And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; either shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. 12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth…..15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.
Exodus 31:15-17 16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
The word for "TOKEN" in Gen. and "SIGN" in Exodus is the same word!! The word is ??? ’owth’ #226, which means "a sign, a signal, a distinguishing mark, A Proof of something."
Perpetual and forever, also mean the same thing. (‘owlam # 5769)
The only question of who the Sabbath is for concerns who Israel is…more on that later.
In the Catholic’s own Baltimore Catechism, question 235, the Catholic Church admits changing the Lord’s Day from Sabbath to Sunday. Please look it up for yourself. Even though God said the Sabbath was a proof of His promise, a sign that is perpetual, man thinks he changed it. If the current pope would decide to change the Sign of the Promise of the Rainbow, we certainly wouldn’t become good little Catholics and blindly get out our umbrellas, would we? We couldn’t stop hurricane Katrina any more that we can start a flood. Man’s effort is completely futile. As absolutely foolish as it sounds to think that a man could change the Rainbow Covenant, even more so, it is foolish to think man can change any other covenant of God’s, such as Sabbath. Sunday has now become the day of rest, even though there is not one command in Scripture to say so. Unless we are the Creator, we don’t have the property rights to determine how the Creator is to be remembered by His creation.
Because we have not really understood what a covenant is, we can frame up the discussion incorrectly. When you hear a discussion framed up incorrectly in another area such as Creation vs. Evolution you can see the how this prohibits a truthful understanding form being obtained. The same thing happens when we don’t understand God’s ability to keep His word. Let me show you in the following example. See what you think.
In a classroom setting when the topic of Creation vs. Evolution comes up, the Professor in his most arrogant, condescending way, points out that this topic is a question of faith vs. science. He then points to all sorts of "evidence" like Piltdown Man, Nebraska Man, Archeoptryx, Haekels gill fish, and the peppered moth to prove his view from "science". If you point out to Him that all his "evidence’s" are proven hoaxes then the conversation deteriorates into… " Well a majority of the most well respected scientists at the most distinguished universities believe evolution and certainly they all can’t be wrong."
Unfortunately in modern Christianity and usually in the same tone as a college professor, say that theology is a question of "Grace vs. Law" and going on to site the "True meaning of Christmas where Jesus is the reason for the season." They think it is a moral outrage to say Happy Holidays when we should be saying "Merry Christmass". They look down their noses at someone working on SUNday. The nicest clothes are to be worn for Easter. When you point out that there is no evidence of a command for believers to keep Christmas, Easter or SUNday worship in the Bible or point out the totally pagan origins of their beginnings, the conversation usually deteriorates into …"Well the majority of Christians and Pastors do these things. The most respected seminaries teach about these things, certainly the majority of these people can’t be wrong."
To look at the evidence of creation you have to know we are created and are accountable to Him. Everything is perfectly designed and is in perfect harmony with each other. EVERYTHING has to be in balance and has to be precise. You would expect this from a God who is a God of order.
Everything has to be the right size and right distance in relation to each other.
If the earth was one percent closer to the Sun our water would boil off the planet.
If the earth was one percent farther away from the Sun all water would freeze.
The distance of the earth to the sun is perfect for having stable water cycles.
If the nuclear force was 2% stronger or 2% weaker it would prohibit the formation of Protons which would yield a universe without atoms.
Light and Water. The two most common and important things. We still don’t understand how they work.
Light was once thought to be at a constant speed. It’s slowing down.
Water. It’s unique in that it is lighter in its solid form (ice) than its liquid form. If this wasn’t the case, as water froze it would sink, smooshing the fish. And because it is now insulated, by the water above it, the lake, sea or ocean would continue to freeze and then would remain frozen.
If the Sun was bigger the brightness would change too quickly and there would be too much high energy radiation to allow life.
If it were smaller there wouldn’t be enough mass (gravity) to keep earth in orbit.
If the surface gravity were stronger there would be no life.
If the surface gravity were weaker there would be no life.
If the crust thickness was any thicker the breathable air would be wrong for how gasses are transferred from atmosphere to the crust.
If the crust were thinner the crust would be unstable and would crack and we’d constantly have volcanoes everywhere.
The rotation period is perfect to support life. Slightly longer or shorter doesn’t work.
If the moon were too much closer it would cause too severe of Tidal effect.
If too far it would cause our climate to become very unstable.
If the earth’s magnetism were any stronger storms would be too violent to support life
If the earth’s magnetism were any weaker we wouldn’t be shielded from solar wind and radiation.
These are just the ones I know about, I don’t even know about the ones I don’t know about.
All things must be perfect from the beginning and in balance. Everything is very precise to support life.
If you add or subtract any distance, size, mass, or speed it messes up everything and life doesn’t exist.
All these things are perfect from the beginning, and yet the God who did all these things apparently botched it up when He wrote the Torah on day one of the beginning? He couldn’t get it right? He had to come and free us from His Torah? That had to be done away with?
Yashua said that He would give us just ONE sign for this wicked generation concerning His death and resurrection. As Jonah was 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the whale, so the Son of Man will be 3 days and 3 nights in the belly of the earth. From Good Friday evening to Easter morning is 1 ½ days That’s 50% off the mark! If you insist that Yashua died on Good Friday and rose again on Easter SUNday than you are also implying that God is a pathetic counter and is sloppy in His prophecies. Is the God Who must to be so precise on His creation, not able to get His own clue right? According to the modern Gentile Christian believer, that is the case. The poor, backward, un-evolved, unenlightened Torah reader that is stuck in the stone age with the Feasts of the Lord counts exactly 3 nights and 3 days from Passover to Feast of First Fruits. By the way, if you look at the origins of Good Friday (Dagon) and Easter (Isthar / Ashteroth), you would also come to think of God as weak and beggarly in that He has to tag up, join along and adapt to man’s/Satan’s holidays. Do you view God as All-powerful and able to know what He thinks and express it on His terms or do you view Him as small and adaptable to whatever man dictates?
In the Catholic word ChristMASS, the MASS part means death &/or sacrifice. Yet we celebrate His BIRTH at ChristMASS. WHOOPS that’s 100% off. Thank goodness God has us men to help Him explain what He meant and clear things up for Him. He has such a difficult time expressing Himself. I’ve got it. Maybe God now uses REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY to get us to do what He wants, just like parents do sometimes with their kids. It wasn’t working so good for Him just to say what He means and mean what He says. So in Jeremiah 10:2-5 where God says, "DON’T do as the heathen do, DON’T go to the forest and cut down a tree and DON’T put a base on it and bring it into your house, DON’T deck it with gold and silver. Apparently, His reverse psychology is working. Nearly every professing Christian and non-christian does exactly what God told His people NOT to do. Huh? Ouch, my head hurts. I just wish there was a manual to explain which parts of the Bible are to be taken as they are stated and which verses are where He is playing mind games with us.
Go and look in your Bible for instruction to believers to keep Christmass, Easter, etc. Are you having a hard time figuring out and finding Christmass, Easter, SUNday, etc. in your Bible, and do you find it all so confusing? Are you asking yourself, "When do I listen to God from His Word, and when do I just do what it means in my heart even when what I do is not Scriptural? Are you confused & confounded?
Remember, God is not the Author of confusion! Do you remember the story of Babylon and the Tower of Babel in Gen 11? Babel means confused and confounded. These people in the story of Gen. 11 when confused were not able tell of God’s greatness much less even make bricks. God does not want us confused and that is why He tells us in Rev. 18:4 to "Come out of Babylon" or to come out of a confusing false religious system. Keep reading that passage and you will find that if you don’t come out of Babylon, you get to be a partaker of the plagues reserved for Babylon. It looks like everyone IN Babylon gets destroyed and loses their life. So what is God’s instruction for staying out of confusion?
Deuteronomy 4:1-21 Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Deuteronomy 30:14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; 16 In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live.
The slightest change to any physical element to the universe and you don’t have life and yet we think we can make whatever changes we want to the spiritual world and still expect life. We read this and yet we add things which are not in Torah. Easter, Christmas, Sunday. We subtract Sabbath, His Feasts, His Ways and yet we expect life?
Life from non-life has never been observed. There is one Seed of faith. The seed of faith that Abraham had put in him is the same one that is put in a believer today. There is not a new kind of seed. There is not a new Way. Yashua is always the Way. Yashua is the Word (John 1:1) The Word is Torah.
But what about Evangelizing? Isn’t that the most important thing?
The main objection that I hear from Pastors and church-goers is that the reason we should compromise on all these minor legal issues is because we are here to evangelize and win souls. Some modern Christians swoop down on a suspected unbeliever like a politician or used car salesmen (no offense intended to politicians or used car salesmen) and tell the person what they want to hear.
This is the flavor of what I hear:
Just love them into the kingdom. Can I hug you?
There isn’t really a need to get into the Word right away, it can be so confusing.
I’ll make a heart wrenching speech that will persuade them into praying the sinners prayer, then maybe, eventually, there will be some discipleship.
I have to do Christmas and Easter because those are the two times the churches are full, therefore, it is the best time to take an offering, whoops I mean spread the gospel.
But that’s not what it means to me…
Misrepresenting God and His Son, is not good witnessing nor good salesmanship. What happens when the person finds out that they have been lied to? Shouldn’t an unbeliever know and understand what covenant they are entering into? Doesn’t faith come by hearing the Word of God? (Rom. 10:17) God has a plan and a message that has been the same from the beginning. He does not need our help to "sell" it. All of us need to remember what Jer. 48:10 says as we walk out and share our faith with others...."Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully."
Consider the following verses and notice how Yashua & Paul taught and evangelized about the Messiah:
Luke 24:25-27 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Luke 24:44-45 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
John 1:45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
John 5:45-47 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. 46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
Psalms 40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,
John 5:39 Search the scriptures(OT implied); for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
I had always been taught that the Gospel is a new thing that just we New Testament folks have. Apparently the O.T. people had to be saved some other way??? There has only been ONE Gospel message. THE Gospel Message is for all ages; it isn’t some new evolved message that only those after Yashua’s life can enjoy. Being born again is not just a New Testament thing. In John 3, Yashua busted Nicodemus for not understanding this concept. In other words he should have know what this phrase "born-again’ meant from the teaching of Torah. It is there and it is taught.
Hebrews 4:1-2 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
It’s how Paul witnessed to the Gentiles in Rome…
Acts 28:23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
I can tell you from personal experience that when I followed the pagan originated holidays such as ChristMASS, Easter, etc. I had to be disciplined, focused and be deliberate on evangelizing to strike up a conversation about the Lord. I also just wanted to stick to a script like John 3 or the Romans Road, etc. The results were not very effective.
Now that I keep the Feast of the Lord and follow His Ways defined in Torah, I witness more by accident then I ever dreamed of doing on purpose.
When my neighbor asked why we keep Passover, I said "Let me tell you about the Lamb."
When my boss asks why I am taking vacation in late September for Feast of Tabernacles, I can tell him about how The Word will Tablernacle (dwell) with us in the future. I can also tell him of living in tents for a week each year shows what God delivered us from and that we should get not become arrogant about all the blessings we now have. It’s His gift to us.
When asked about Feast of First Fruits I can tell you that since Christ was resurrected and He is holy, then that proves that He has the capacity to resurrect those of us who are in Him and are made holy by Him.
When asked why I’m keeping feast of Trumpets. I can tell of the coronation of our King.
When asked why I keep Sabbath I tell people that it reminds me of our Creator, Redeemer and Restorer. We can also talk about the rest we’ll enjoy in the Millennial Kingdom.
When folks see the tzit-tzit ribbon that I wear, most ask what it is. I tell them of Whom I trying to obey.
Here is why obeying God works so good for evangelizing. It’s obvious that you are following somebody very important when you obey them even if it makes you look weird to the rest of the world. This provokes some to jealousy and others to curiosity as to why this is occurring. When asked you can go directly to how this points to the Messiah in whichever role He is emphasized in for that Feast. The Lamb, The High Priest, The King, The Prophet, The Judge, The Creator, etc.
Look how God ties obedience to Torah as what makes you peculiar.
Exodus 19:5-6 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.
Deuteronomy 26:17-19 17 Thou hast avouched the Lord this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: 18 And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; 19 And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, and in name, and in honour; and that thou mayest be an holy people unto the Lord thy God, as he hath spoken.
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (Iniquity means lawlessness—"anomia"-without Torah)
1 Peter 2:8-9 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
God uses the word "peculiar" for how obedience makes you look. I might use the word "weird" but either way you stand out and unbelievers know who to talk to. I have found that unbelievers are extremely curious as to what is going on and don’t get offended by me actually following the leader that I profess as Lord the way He says. To date the only ones who have taken issue and offence to me following God’s Torah have been pastors and most ardent church-goers.
Man’s Ways vs God’s Ways
When Yashua walked this earth, He took every occasion to violate Talmud, while always keeping Torah. Talmud, is a man-made tradition and is what the religious leaders of the day equated with Scripture. It was said to be God’s Oral Law which men kept changing as time went on. To keep Talmud and Torah was impossible and mutually exclusive. People had to choose what or who was the Authority. Anything that was extra-Biblical Yashua made sure to violate. Torah teaches that it is good to do good on the Sabbath. It only lists 6 things you can’t do on Sabbath. The Talmud teaches that there is nothing to be done on Sabbath. You can’t walk very far, you can’t make mud, you can’t even spit. There are over 1,500 regulations listed in Talmud concerning Sabbath. When Yashua healed a man on the Sabbath, He made sure that this good deed was done and Talmud was not followed. He spit to make mud and then sent the man on a far walk to wash in the pool of Siloam. This freaked out the religious leaders because He did not respect them as the Authority. Like Yashua, it is our duty to figure out what is from God and what is from man. It is also our duty to keep and follow that which is God’s and oppose and reject that which is man’s. Like at the time of Christ, the religious leaders of today are pretending they are the Authority of Scripture. Instead of Talmud, modern Christianity has invented it’s list of do’s and don’t and ways to promote themselves as the Authority. Christmass, Easter and SUNday worship, etc. are from man and should, in my opinion, be rejected since man is not the Authority.
In the book of Revelation, 3:8, the church of Philadelphia is commended for KEEPING HIS WORD.
Later in Rev. 12:17 we are shown that the believer who causes Satan the most trouble are identified with two characteristics; 1. they have the testimony of Yashua and
2. they keep His commandments.
Here in the last book at the End of time, the believers look a lot like some of the early examples of non-modern, un-evolved O.T. believers.
Abraham is cited as the example of what a believer should be like. He believed first, then he obeyed. Look.
Abraham believed God and it was counted unto Him as righteousness in Gen. 17. Then He obeyed His commands in Gen. 26:4-5. (And yes, God’s commands/Torah was around before Moses and Sinai)
When you compare Abraham to Lot you see two "saved" men with totally different attitudes towards God and what it means to be obedient. Abram was told to leave his country and kin. He obeyed immediately. He abandoned his past life. Later, when asked to sacrifice Isaac he immediately did that too, thus abandoning his future. When told to circumcise his flesh, he did it right away. He let Lot pick which part of the country to live in when they separated ways. While Abraham had some promises to cling to, it becomes obvious that Abraham was obeying because he loved the Lord. He left Ur of the Chaldees without threat of being punished or being judged. He went to sacrifice Isaac without a carrot of a promise. He simply obeyed. Lot wanted to fit into the world. He didn’t leave Sodom until it was to be destroyed. It says he lingered in the city until the angels drug he and his family out at the last second. Abraham acted in the absence of any promise or without fear of retribution. His delight was to do the will of his Father, because he loved Him. Lot was delivered but had very little desire to do the will of his Father. It appears Lot only wanted the fire insurance.
THE ONLY REASON TO KEEP TORAH IS FOR THE LOVE OF YHWH! We do not keep Torah to get saved or escape hell. We do not keep Torah to get blessings only or escape curses only. We keep Torah out of an incredible love for the One who created, redeemed and continues to sustain us. The only one’s teaching that keeping Torah is a means of salvation are the Christian church and unsaved orthodox Jews. . The Bible does not teach that. What was once called obedience, now gets labeled as legalism.
We all have heard that the two commands to keep are love the Lord your God and Love others as yourself. How do you know when you have done that? Is it a goosebump? Is it a feeling? Seems rather ambiguous and vague. How is the love of God perfected? God’s Word answers this directly.
1 John 2:3-7 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. 7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.
Romans 13:8-9 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Look what Paul uses to define what loving one another looks like. He quotes the 10 commandments.
This pattern of Salvation then obedience carries on with the rest of the heroes of the Faith.
Noah found GRACE in eyes of the Lord in Gen. 6:8, then he obeyed God in Gen. 7.
Daniel, Job, Elijah, Enoch, Josiah, David, Jepthae, Jeremiah, Isaiah, etc, etc all follow this pattern. Maybe the modern gentile isn’t as superior as he thinks he is and should take the advice of Paul to the Romans.
Romans 11:17-21 17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. 19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in. 20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
Why is all this so important? Because of the times we are living in, Satan wants to pick off and destroy believers. He wants us to be so flawed that we are no problem for him. Satan wants us to fall away from our faith and give up. In Daniel 7:25 it shows the anti-Christ wanting to change God’s appointed times (Feasts) and His laws. There seems to be a debate over who is God and who gets to set the rules for life. If I hit your "mute button" and watched your schedule and which laws you kept (or didn’t keep) who would you look like you were following? Would you look like you’re embracing God’s Laws and schedule or Satan’s. Since I have been keeping God’s Ways, as best as I understand them, it has been nothing but a blessing. My understanding of Scripture has sky-rocketed. I feel less deceived and more prepared for the Adversary. When Yashua came the 1st time He fulfilled the Spring Feasts. I’m know studying the Fall Feasts to get a glimpse of the game plan for His second coming. Believe me it’s nothing like the best-selling fiction end-time books. It’s actually tied to Scripture both Old and New Testament. It’s been tremendously helpful.
It is the right and loving thing to understand and explain to believers and unbelievers what Scripture says about the end-times. It will be a blindingly deceptive time. When trouble arrives, how helpful and loving will it be to you for the local pastor or modern church-goer to only be able to offer you a hug. You need knowledge and understanding too.
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Moses, when speaking at the end of his life, to the children of Israel, was speaking to them on what would befall them in the latter days. Read Moses’ advice:
Deuteronomy 32:46-47 46 And he said unto them, Set your hearts unto all the words which I testify among you this day, which ye shall command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law. 47 For it is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life:
In the book of Revelation, two things are mentioned that you need to know. First, John identifies himself as a bond-servant of Christ. (Rev 1:1) Is this a good thing and should we want to be a bond-servant too? Of course it is. But how can I learn what that is without reading about it in Torah. (Exodus 21) Additionally, one of the things that Yashua has against one of the 7 churches is that they hold to the Doctrine of Balaam. (Rev. 2:14) It destroys His church and upsets our Messiah. How can I avoid such a false doctrine if I have rejected Torah as not relevant for me? (Numbers 21). I must admit that the modern church hasn’t rejected all the law. Even though the church teaches that Christ has done away with the Law, the church has allowed one of these things from the law to be present in the church without much change. The TITHE, which is outlined only in Torah and when referenced in other places like Heb 7:5 just points back to Torah, has passed muster and has been found to be worthy to be left in the modern Christian church.
If there is any reason that we have it better today vs. the OT believer is because we have seen God be faithful to His Word so many times. Our confidence in Him should be through the roof! For centuries the OT believer sacrificed a lamb on Passover, rehearsing and looking for the real thing. Then Yashua came along and was THE Lamb. That’s better. The Real is better than the Shadow. Modern Christianity teaches that the OT believers kept Passover which is about a lamb and the New Testament believer keeps Easter which is about a bunny. This is a shadow vs. Pagan. This is something holy vs. something profane.
Who is the Israel that Torah is for?
What has helped me most, to understand that I am to follow the God of Israel as a child of Israel is to understand what it means to be part of Israel and what is a Jew. Romans chapters 9-11 teaches that there is natural born Israel and Spiritual Israel. Nobody is naturally born saved. You must be born again! But we should be born into Israel spiritually. Eph. 2:12 says that to be part of Christ is to be part of the commonwealth of Israel. This implies that if you are not IN CHRIST then you are not part of the commonwealth of Israel. It goes on to state in Eph 2:15 that the enmity of the law is now slain. What was once a "have to" is now a "want to." The Apostle Paul was a Benjaminite, but he was not part of spiritual Israel until the road to Damascus incident. John the Baptist was a Levite and followed Yashua. All believers, until Cornelius, were first natural born Israel then born again Israel. When you enter heaven it will be through one of the gates of the 12 tribes of Israel. There is no modern gentile believer gate, Baptist gate, Lutheran gate, or E-Free gate. You must identify with Israel and want to be led by the God of Israel. So the difference of being spiritual Israel vs. natural Israel is just as huge as a person who lives geographically in America vs. an American who is a patriot and loves what this country stands for and it’s ideals. Many people want to be an American because of the benefits, but refuse to defend the things that preserve those freedoms and benefits that nobody else has. It’s annoying when a natural-only American says he’s an American and yet flies a Mexican flag in his yard. It’s annoying when a natural and yes legal American disdains the principles that our country was founded upon and the ways in which we remember and celebrate our heritage. So much more is it when those who claim to be a follower of the God of Israel, who won’t follow the teachings of the God of Israel and want nothing to do with the ways we remember and celebrate the God of Israel. Many Christians just want the fire insurance and benefits, and that’s it. When we celebrate Passover, for example, we spend all our time focusing on the Lamb. This not only is an easy witnessing opportunity for anyone who asks what we are up to, but it gives Him glory for a pretty major accomplishment of His. Each Sabbath and each Feast cycles around each week and each year to remind us of Him. The are called cycles or paths of Righteousness. Psalm 23, which most modern Christians allow from the OT and even like at funerals, mentions how "He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness, for His name sake." These are for bringing glory to Him! We don’t do that when we follow Satan’s yearly cycle and schedule.
Here’s another way to look at it….Ronald Reagan has two sons; one natural born and one adopted. Ron Jr. is biologically Ronald’s son, but with the exception of the blood flowing through their veins, they are nothing alike. Ron Jr. is for everything His dad was against and against everything His dad was for. Ron Jr. thinks America is intrinsically evil and is ashamed of his father’s legacy (although he likes the celebrity status his dad attained for him). On the other hand, you have different fingers, Michael, Reagan’s adopted son is a very conservative person who shares the same goals and vision of our country. He sees America as a Shining City on a hill like his dad, and is honored to be associated with his dad and to continue his efforts. Now, which son is more "Reagan-esque?" Like Romans 8:15 says, we must be adopted in. When we are truly born-again we long to have the mind of Christ and honor Him and pursue the same interests. We look to remember His accomplishments and look forward to His next ones. In Rev 5:12 every one present is crying out "Worthy is the Lamb" because He redeemed us. Does the modern gentile Christian say?.. "I haven’t really ever been into Passover, I do Easter instead." That attitude seems to be very Ron Jr.-esque.
Our "Dad" hates it when we say we belong to Him and serve Him in a way that isn’t His way. Deut. 12:30-31 says we are to Take heed to not learn the false ways to worship God and do those false things and say we are doing it unto Him. He says that is an abomination to Him.
Because we are adopted and want to be with Him we take His plan. So a new covenant believer is not one who has done away with the law, but is one who has the law written on their hearts. (Jer. 31:30. Heb 8:10) The term Jew should not be an insult, but if meant in a spiritual sense, should be the ultimate compliment. Read Romans 2:29 what a spiritual Jew is:
Romans 2:28-29 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
I hope that this encourages you think and causes you to search out what Bible says the Truth is about these matters. With time being so short and the Satan being so deceptive, it time to tighten up our sloppy faith and read, understand and do the Word of God.
If you would like to discuss any of this with me, I would be happy to visit with you.
